How NorthstarFI handles your data

Trust depends on being clear about what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it. This page explains those choices in plain language.

What we use data for

Account access, saved planning history, support workflows, product reliability, and security monitoring.

What we do not do

NorthstarFI is an educational planning product. We do not present planning outputs as personalized investment advice or a substitute for legal or tax counsel.

What stays connected

Saved outlooks, scenario work, and signed-in feedback stay attached to the account that created them so support and product review can happen without guessing at what you were seeing.

What we collect

We may collect account information such as your email address, display name, authentication and session details, and other information you choose to provide when creating or managing an account.

We may also collect planning information you enter into the product, including profile details, assets, liabilities, income, spending, retirement-related assumptions, saved outlooks, and related planning history.

To keep the service secure and reliable, we may collect operational and diagnostic information such as session activity, device and browser metadata, error logs, usage analytics, and billing-related records where applicable.

How we use data

We use your information to provide and maintain the service, protect account access, render planning views, preserve saved history, respond to support requests, and improve the clarity, reliability, and performance of the product.

We may use aggregated or de-identified product usage information to understand how the service is being used, where users encounter friction, and how to prioritize product improvements. This is not used to provide personalized investment advice.

How we approach data responsibility

We aim to collect only the information needed to operate the product, explain how planning features work, and support the account you create. We do not treat your planning data as advertising inventory or share it for marketing purposes.

If we use service providers for hosting, authentication, billing, diagnostics, email delivery, or analytics, we do so to operate and secure the product — not to build marketing profiles from your planning history.

How saved planning data behaves

Saved outlooks and related planning history are meant to preserve a stable record of the assumptions, score, and modeled path that existed when you saved them. That continuity is part of the product value, so we keep those records to support comparison, review, and support workflows.

We may also retain operational context around those records — such as model version, planning-limit version, and event timestamps — so the product can explain what the saved result was based on.

Cookies and advertising

NorthstarFI uses cookies and similar technologies to maintain your signed-in session, remember interface preferences, and measure the performance of advertising campaigns.

We use Google Ads conversion tracking (via Google's gtag.js) to understand whether visitors who clicked one of our ads went on to create an account. This places a cookie in your browser that Google uses to attribute site visits to specific ad clicks. Google may use this data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles or retarget you across other sites.

You can opt out of Google Ads personalisation at adssettings.google.com.

How information may be shared

We may share information with service providers and infrastructure vendors that help us operate the product, such as hosting, database, authentication, email, billing, analytics, logging, or error-monitoring providers.

We may also disclose information where required to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect the security of the service, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our terms.

Your choices and retention

You can choose how much planning information to enter into the product, and you can update or remove certain information through the app. Some information may be retained for security, legal, billing, audit, or operational continuity reasons.

If you have questions about access, correction, deletion, or other data requests, sign in and submit a message through the contact page.

Effective date

This privacy policy was last updated in 2026. It may be revised as the product, applicable law, or our data practices evolve. Continued use of NorthstarFI constitutes acknowledgment of the current version.
